The Inclusive Education (Okiskinohamwâkanak Sîtoskâkîwina) framework values and honors Nîhiyâwîwin principles to support all students 

KTCEA’s Inclusive Education policy and programming operates under the principles of Wâhkôhtowin ᐋᐧᐦᑰᐦᑐᐃᐧᐣ, relationships, and Wiciwâkanihtowin ᐃᐧᒋᐋᐧᑲᓂᐦᑐᐃᐧᐣ—partnerships with parents, elders, all school staff, and community members. 

At KTCEA Inclusive education means all our students are accepted and included in their classroom no matter their needs, values, abilities, or differences.  We show what we value through:

We support our students to grow their possibilities and to achieve their full potential, with Nîhiyâwîwin (being Cree) as their foundation.

Partnerships Wiciwâkanihtowin

We use cultural and community approaches to reduce barriers, build trust, and include parents, elders, and services in the community. KTCEA service providers use approaches that honour Cree identity and language to create student-first programming.  

Understanding learner strengths and needs

Academic success is central to cementing what students need to achieve for the future and feel like they belong right now.

Wellness - Miyoayâwin -

Center to student success. It means land-based nehiyaw ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐤ knowledge is a key part of learning, self-regulation, mental health and wellness. 

Response to Intervention 

Our schools use a response to intervention approach. This is to promote effective and high-quality instruction to help all students achieve success. 

Tier 1:  Classrooms & Best practices to support all students

Tier 2:  Small group and student support

Tier 3: 1:1 specialized assistance through registered professionals for academic, behavioral, and emotional challenges with guardian consent. Services include: SLP (speech language), OT (occupational therapy), PT (physical therapy), Mental Health, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Psychology, Equine Assisted Therapy

Capacity Building

We practice lifelong learning that supports our relationships in all our schools and communities. Training, understanding and mentorship within all our relationships and skills is key to the success of our students.
