PowerSchool Breach January 2025
On Thursday, January 9, we were informed of an International cybersecurity incident involving a PowerSchool support portal (PowerSource). The breach impacted dozens of Alberta school divisions and hundreds more across North America.
On January 16, 2025, PowerSchool confirmed a data breach, including Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council Education Authority (KTCEA). The breach affected current and former KTCEA Student and Staff information stored in the PowerSchool Student Information System.
What is some of the data compromised in the breach?
The following information was exported from individual accounts:
- First name
- Last name
- Date of birth
- Student phone numbers
- Home/mailing address
What information was not compromised?
- Financial data (credit card or banking information)
- Student profile photos
- Computer user passwords (passwords are encrypted within the database)
What is being done?
- Our IT team and PowerSchool Specialist responded promptly and conducted local investigations to fully understand the breach and mitigate any further potential risks.
- PowerSchool took immediate action to prevent further unauthorized access to information within its system. They do not anticipate the data being shared publicly and believe it has been deleted without replication.

Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council Education Authority is fully committed to transparency and will share updates as soon as more information becomes available.
