Regional Education Agreement – July 18, 2019
A historic signing event for the KTCEA Regional Education Agreement (REA) was hosted by Woodland Cree First Nation at the Cadotte Lake School on July 18, 2019. Over 200 people attended the event including nation members, leaders and guests. The agreement is the first of its kind in Canada.
The REA was signed by all five KTC Chiefs and the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Indigenous Services Canada. By signing the agreement, KTC Chiefs are exercising their treaty right to education by honouring the vision of our elders and leaders to work together as one education authority responsible for the education of our children.
This new federal commitment will enable KTCEA to put forward new resources and hire new staff to further student achievement. The agreement includes the KTCEA Funding Model which secures guaranteed funding for 10 years.
We were honored that Grand Chief Arthur Noskey, Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta and representatives from the Maskwacis Education Schools Commission attended the event to witness and stand alongside our leadership on this historic day.
