New Schools at Peerless Trout First Nation
The construction of the two new schools at Peerless Trout First Nation is closer to completion! Long awaited by students, teachers, leaders and Nation members, the two new schools will be replacing the existing Peerless Lake and Kateri Schools.
Each of the two schools have unique features thanks to the work of a community group that worked closely with Stantec to design the buildings.
The new school at Peerless Lake will be for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students and 2662 square meters. The new school at Trout Lake will be for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students and 5472 square meters. Northern Lakes College will have a wing within the Trout Lake school for its programming.
We will be starting the new school year in the existing schools. Forest fires at Peerless and Trout Lake First Nation this spring and summer created delays in construction. In the coming weeks, we will have a better sense of when we can occupy the buildings. Updates will be provided once available.
Until the school is ready for operation, bus routes will not change. Grades 9-12 students from Peerless Lake will continue to attend school at the current Peerless Lake school.
After we take occupancy, a number of tasks need to occur including installing furniture and training staff on the building operating systems.
We are planning to host a Grand Opening Ceremony in the fall 2019. Further details will be provided once a date is confirmed.
